Yellow Split Pea Soup Recipe
Serves 4 to 6 Ingredients: 1 lb yellow split peas
8 cups water
2 tbsp unsalted butter
6 large garlic cloves, crushed
2 tsp cumin
2 tsp mustard seeds
1 1/2 tsp turmeric
1 tsp cinnamon
1 tsp salt, or to taste
Black pepper, and/or cayenne pepper
Instructions: 1. Place split peas in a saucepan with the water.
2. Cover and bring to a boil.
3. Lower heat and simmer very slowly, partially covered, until soft, 2 to 2 1/2 hours.
4. Melt butter in a large skillet.
5. Add garlic, cumin, mustard seeds, turmeric, and cinnamon.
6. Cook, stirring, over medium heat for 3 to 5 minutes.
7. Add to cooked peas and stir until everything is well mixed.
8. Add salt and peppers.
