Warm Herring Entree Or Luncheon Recipe

Serves 4

Ingredients:

  • 4 salted herring
  • 2 potatoes
  • 2 red onions
  • 3 dl cream
  • 2 tbsp breadcrumbs
  • 1 3/4 butter
  • Ground pepper


  • Instructions:

    1. Rinse the herrings in cold water and cut the tails.
    2. Peel potatos and cut into thin slices.
    3. Peel onions and cut into thin slices as well.
    4. Take a heat-resistant dish and put in a layer of potatoes. Put pepper on layer.
    5. Then put in a layer of herrings. Put pepper on layer.
    6. End with another layer of potatoes. Put pepper on layer.
    7. Put in the cream until approximately 1 inch from the top.
    8. Put on the breadcrumbs and spread little lumps of butter on top.
    9. Put in a 400 F oven for about 40 minutes until the top is brown.
    10. Best sServed with icecold Aquavit, that's a very strong Danish liquor.
