Lard Cookies Recipe

Makes 2 dozen cookies

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup lard
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 1/2 tsp baking soda
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp nutmeg
  • 1 heaping tsp baking powder
  • 3 cups flour (or enough flour to make a soft dough that will hold together for rolling)


  • Instructions:

    1. Melt lard; then cool until lukewarm.
    2. Sift all dry ingredients together.
    3. Add lard to dry ingredients.
    4. Add buttermilk.
    5. Mix well.
    6. Roll dough to 1/2 inch thickness on floured board.
    7. Cut large round cookies.
    8. Cook until brown, about 12 minutes.
