Tandoori Chicken Recipe

Serves 6


  • 2 lb chicken legs and thighs
  • 1 1/2 tbsp vegetable oil
  • 1/2 tsp red food color
  • Salt to taste
  • 1/2 tsp black pepper
  • 1 to 2 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 medium onion (optional)
  • 1 cup yogurt
  • 1 tsp garam masala
  • 1/2 lemon or lime, sliced


1. Peel skin off chicken pieces.
2. Make several cuts into each piece.
3. Wash off clean with paper towel.
4. Mix vegetable oil, food color, all spices and onion, if desired into yogurt.
5. Marinate chicken with mixture 4 or 5 hours, overnight for best results.
6. Bake chicken at 400 degrees 30 minutes.
7. No need to preheat oven.
8. Keep basting with juice occasionally.
9. If there is excess juice, you may spoon out some.
10. Broil chicken 2 to 5 minutes toward the end.
11. Sprinkle with Garam Masala.
12. Garnish with lemon slices and few leaves of cilantro (optional).
