Mincemeat Recipe

Makes enough for 2 pies

Ingredients:

  • 3/4 lb unsalted butter or margarine, or beef suet
  • 3/4 lb raisins
  • 3/4 lb currants
  • 3/4 lb sultanas
  • 3/4 lb chopped apples
  • 3 oz citron
  • 3 oz candied lemon peel
  • 3 oz candied orange peel
  • 1/2 lb almonds
  • 1/8 tsp cinnamon
  • 1/8 tsp mace
  • 1/8 tsp allspice
  • 1/8 tsp white pepper
  • 3/4 cup brandy


Instructions:

1. Preheat oven to 325 F.
2. Combine all ingredients and grind twice through the finest blade of your meat grinder.
3. Place in a lidded oven-proof pot and place in the oven.
4. Bake for 40 minutes.
5. Remove from oven and stir in brandy.
6. Store the mincemeat in a cool place for at least 1 week before using, or up to 6 months.
