Apple or Green Tomato Chutney Recipe

Makes about 6 cups

Ingredients:

  • 1 seeded chopped lemon
  • 1 skinned chopped clove garlic
  • 5 cups firm, peeled green apples
  • 2 1/4 cups brown sugar
  • 1 1/2 cups seeded raisins
  • 3 ounces chopped crystallized ginger or
  • 3/4 cup fresh ginger
  • 1 1/2 tsp cayenne
  • 2 cups cider vinegar
  • 2 chopped red peppers, seeds and membranes, removed


Instructions:

1. Simmer all the ingredients until the fruit is tender.
2. Put the chutney in sterile jars and seal.
3. May add 1 cup chopped onions and 1 cup chopped nuts if desir ed.
