Apple and Prune Chutney Recipe

Makes 6 cups

Ingredients:

  • 8 oz apples, peeled, cored and chopped
  • 11 oz prunes, washed and chopped, (stones removed)
  • 1 lb onions, peeled, and chopped
  • 2 cups sultanas
  • 2 cups apple-vinegar
  • 2 2/3 cups soft brown sugar, pressed firmly
  • 1 tbsp salt
  • 1 tsp ground allspice
  • 1 tsp ground ginger
  • 1/4 tsp ground nutmeg
  • 1/4 tsp ground cayenne pepper
  • 1/4 tsp ground cloves
  • 2 tsp mustard seed
  • Sterilized glass jars


Instructions:

1. Bring all the ingredients to a boil in a fairly large pan.
2. Reduce heat.
3. Simmer, with a lid on the pan, for approximately 2 hours.
4. When the mixture is thick enough, pour the chutney into sterilized jars and close them immediately.
