Grandma's Swinging Eggnog Recipe

Serves 20

Eggnog is a traditional holiday party drink. This recipe makes a rich and powerful eggnog, even if you reduce the liquor by half. If you prefer a nonalcoholic eggnog, leave out the booze altogether: this eggnog is very rich and very good.


  • 6 egg yolks
  • 1/2 cup sugar (white, granulated)
  • 2 cup milk
  • 2 cup light rum or brandy or dark rum or bourbon
  • 2 cup whipping cream


1. Beat yolks until light.
2. Add sugar and mix well.
3. Add milk and rum.
4. Mix well, then chill for at least 3 hours.
5. One hour before serving, whip cream and stir into chilled mixture.
6. Return to refrigerator for an hour.
7. Serve in punch cups and dust with nutmeg.
