Run For the Roses Pie Recipe

Serves 8

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • 1/3 cup light corn syrup
  • 1/3 cup dark unsulphured molasses
  • 3 tbsp butter
  • 3 tbsp Kentucky bourbon
  • 1/2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 4 eggs
  • 2-3 tbsp half-and-half
  • 2 cup walnut pieces
  • 1/3 cup milk chocolate or semisweet chocolate
  • 1/3 cup milk chocolate, or semisweet chocolate chips
  • 1 pie crust, unbaked
  • Optional garnish: ice cream


  • Instructions:

    1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
    2. In a large, heavy saucepan, combine brown sugar, corn syrup, molasses, butter, bourbon, vanilla and salt.
    3. Heat to boiling, stirring frequently.
    4. Boil for 1 minute, stirring constantly.
    5. Remove pan from heatand let mixture cool.
    6. In a bowl, beat eggs with half-and-half until well-blended.
    7. Mix eggs into cooled syrup , ixture until well-incorporated.
    8. Stir in walnuts and chocolate chips.
    9. Pour the filling into pie crust 3. Bake 45-50 minutes, until a toothpick inserted into center comes out clean.
    10. Serve warm or at room temperature. Accompany with ice cream if desired.
