Italian Gocci Di Cioccolata Recipe

Makes 60 cookies

Ingredients:

  • 2 cup all-purpose flour
  • 3/4 tsp baking powder
  • 3/4 tsp baking soda
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/3 cup cocoa
  • 1 tsp cinnamon
  • 1/2 tsp nutmeg
  • 1/4 tsp ground cloves
  • 1 cup crisco shortening
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 3/4 cup milk
  • Glaze and Decoration:
  • 2 cup icing sugar, sifted
  • 1/2 tsp vanilla
  • 1/4 tsp almond extract
  • 2 to 4 tbsp milk
  • Food colouring, red and green
  • Optional candy decorations


  • Instructions:

    1. Preheat oven to 350F (180C).
    2. Sift first 8 dry ingredients together.
    3. Cream shortening, sugar and egg together on medium speed of electric mixer until light and creamy.
    4. Add dry ingredients to creamed mixture alternately with milk, mixing just until batter is smooth.
    5. Drop dough by rounded spoonful onto greased baking sheet.
    6. Bake at 350F (180C) for 9-12 minutes, or until set.
    7. Remove to rack, cool completely.
    Glaze and Decoration:
    8. Combine icing sugar, vanilla, almond extract and enough milk to make a medium glaze consistency.
    9. Colour, if desired.
    10. Spread over a few cookies at a time, sprinkle with candy decorations.
    11. Let glaze set before storing. Freezes well.
